Pre-school rated as ‘outstanding’ by inspectors

A pre-school in Sutton has been rated as outstanding in every category by Ofsted following an inspection earlier this month.

Shanklin Pre-school based at Shanklin Community Hall in Shanklin Village was praised for the quality of its teaching and the effectiveness of its leadership and staff, resulting in an environment within which children “thrive”.

The inspector said in the report: “Children show excitement as they arrive and are eager to engage in a variety of activities. They relate extremely well to staff and other children. They display excellent behaviour and an enthusiasm to share and join in with their friends.

“The provision of activities is meticulously planned to encompass children’s interests and fully support their learning. Staff expertly adapt activities to engage the abilities of all children to ensure every child feels a sense of achievement.”

Staff were also praised for encouraging healthy eating, and being sensitive to children’s feelings and individual needs. Children also share in activities that celebrate festivals and explore the differences of others, helping to build confidence and their understanding of other cultures in their community.

Shanklin Pre-school is open every weekday during term time from 9.15am to 12.15pm. The pre-school receives funding to provide free early education for two, three and four-year-olds.
